Are You Ready For The A Pmp Exam?

By Doji Shenka

The PMP exam prep is comprised of 200 questions that are written in multiple choice format. It is required that the exam be completed within a four hour time frame, so you will have time to review and/or think about your answers carefully. You must score at least 60% in order to pass. If you are wise, you will have taken PMP certification training before-hand, which will help you on the sometimes wordy exam questions. Elements covered on the PMP exam and in PMP certification training include: managing project quality, time, scope, cost, risk, human resource, procurement, communications, and integration.

Theoretically, no formal PMP certification training is required in order to pass the PMP exam, however the PMP test is not easy. Based upon the PMBoK (project management body of knowledge), the PMP exam is divided into nine knowledge areas, five process groups and some forty-four individual processes which are further sub-divided into inputs, outputs and tools. Therefore, not only is there a great deal of memorization required to pass, but a practical understanding of how all of these project management elements work together and how to use them case by case. PMI (Project Management Institute), has designed this hefty exam to test and predict your ability to put the PMBoK into management practice. Needless to say, any PMP training that you pursue will be of benefit to you, whether it be a formal in-person exam prep course, online PMP exam prep, or simply lots of personal reading and study about project management.

Although no formal PMP certification training is required in order to exam prep, to apply to take the exam, you do need to have a certain amount of project managment experience under your belt. The good news is, the Project Management Institute is fairly lenient on what they will accept as project management experience. A home improvement project you have done, administrative support projects, event orchestration; all of these things are technically considered project management and will be excepted on your PMP exam applicaiton. From time to time, the Project Management Institute has been known to audit individuals applying for the PMP exam, so be sure you document and can prove your project managment experience.

Use this time to write down all of your formulas and other key information that you will need. Then take a few deep breaths and begin. If you have taken PMP certification training and have studied hard, then you have nothing to be afraid of.
