Paying for college is expensive and can sometimes seem out of reach to most. With the economy as it is right now it is more important than ever to pursue higher education. Getting a good education can make a world of difference when looking for a decent paying job. If money is an issue there are a number of different scholarships out there that can help alleviate or cover education entirely. With a number of different types of scholarships being offered there are a number of ways to benefit.


Merit Based: As the name implies there are some scholarships that are awarded to those based on their merit during high school. These scholarships often financial needs into consideration as they are based solely on the student's performance academically. Universities and colleges award these scholarships based on a number of different areas. They take into consideration the prospective students standing in the class, the student's grade point average (GPA), and how high the student has scored on their SAT and/or ACT tests. When attempting to apply for a merit based scholarship it is important for the student to make themselves as attractive as possible to the school as this will aid in the selection process.

Sports Based: Most schools, including bigger title schools and schools, offer scholarship grants or loans to prospective college sports sports athletes. These scholarship grants or loans are available mainly to students searching to see in sports for instance football, baseball, and basketball.
