By Nelly White

The importance of dental insurance is increasing with the increasing costs of dental procedures. In order to be healthy and to take good care of the teeth, dental insurance can be very reasonable and levelheaded precaution. Dental insurance normally covers the examination of the teeth, checkups and dental fillings. Every human needs good teeth which makes a dental insurance policy as important as any other health insurance. Also, you need to have clean teeth and gums to protect you from a lot of other health problems.

There are several kinds of dental care plans and dental insurance that can be availed as a private dental insurance or individual dental insurance plan or offered as benefit to the employee by the employer called the corporate dental insurance. Some may only provide coverage to dental cleaning and examinations while some provide insurance coverage to dental procedures too. You can also go for family dental insurance. These dental insurance policies are not very expensive so anyone can afford to have one.

In a capitation dental insurance policy, a dentist is paid a fixed amount for each registered patient. Some routine dental check up is provided by the dentist in return. Other procedures are taken care according to the terms of the insurance policy. Such a dental insurance is quite affordable for most people.

Any individual can also opt for indemnity insurance plan, in such a plan the insured person can always choose his dentist. The insurance company reimburses any costs involved. Normally 50 percent - 80 percent of the cost will be covered by the dental insurance policy and the remaining amount has to be paid by the policyholder. The main disadvantage of the indemnity dental insurance policy is that they only cover certain procedures that have been mentioned in the policy document and deductibles for non-preventive work can be very high.

Another popular dental insurance policy is the preferred provider dental insurance policy. This policy enables you to get reduced rates for your dental care. If the policyholder uses the service of non-participating dentists the benefits can be reduced to a greater extent. Corporate dental insurance policy is another type of policy which is provided by employers to their employees as additional benefits for a job. The extent of the coverage depends on the policy and can differ from employer to employer. These policies also have a limit for the amount of claim they can get.

There are many more dental insurance policies and plans from which you can choose something that suits your requirement. It is always better to know about them in detail to make a good decision.
